Forming Steel Shafts in the Medical Industry

A client came to THE LAB at Ambrell looking to design a process to heat steel shafts for forming to manufacture medical tools. The client hadn't been using an alternative heating method, so this was a new application for them. The parts were stainless steel (magnetic and non magnetic) and nickel alloy and they needed to heat them to 800 °F (427 °C) for forming.

Forming a Steel Tube with Induction Heating

A client requested complimentary application testing from THE LAB at Ambrell for a preheating for forming application. They had been using a torch, but were interested in switching to induction heating due to the speed and repeatability that it offers. They needed to preheat an area around an elliptical hole in a large steel tube prior to forming. The target temperature for the application was 1800 °F (982 °C).

A client came to THE LAB looking to improve upon their heating process. They had been using a torch, but wanted a faster, safer, more repeatable method of heating. The objective of the application was to heat a magnetic steel part to 1700 ºF (927 ºC) for a forming application.
