La potenza RF viene applicata fino a quando il particolare raggiunge la temperatura appropriata. La bobina di induzione viene quindi rimossa rapidamente dal foro e l'albero che deve essere inserito viene quindi fatto scivolare fino a raggiungere la posizione prevista. L’assieme così formato viene lasciato raffreddare. Con il ritirarsi dei componenti riscaldati sorgono le pressione necessarie per la tenuta del collegamento. A seconda del peso del materiale da sottoporre ad espansione, in alcuni casi viene utilizzata una bobina di forma piatta.
