How can I do about algae growth in my cooling system?

To shock any algae in your system

bang-1It is strongly recommended that when the following process is being performed a filter (100 micron or smaller) is installed at the outlet of the chiller before any plumbing that leads to Ambrell equipment. This prevents the dislodged particles from getting into and plugging our smallish water paths.

  • prepare approximately 1/2 cup (4 oz.) of 5-6% household bleach for each 20 gallons of water
  • circulate for 1 hour
  • drain and refill entire system with clean water
  • circulate for 20 minutes
  • drain and refill with clean water once again
The process is similar to shocking a swimming pool to kill off problem algae. You don’t want the concentration too high or contact time too long as chlorine is a corrosive chemical.
