Should I use square or round tubing in my coil design?

Traditionally, for heat treating process, induction coils were a single turn. If your coil is a single loop of copper, the shape of the magnetic field produced by a square tube is much better than that produced by a round tube. However, if your coil is multiple turns, the square turns don’t offer much of an advantage. The square turns do offer a bit better water flow, though, and in some cases the square tubing may be more mechanically rigid. But, unless your coil is a single turn very tight to the part, we don’t typically see the advantage of using a square tube.
