Objective:
To rapidly heat steel knives with induction in a food processing facility; the client had been using a different heating method.

Equipment:
Ambrell EASYHEAT 1.2 kW, 150-400 kHz induction heating power supply with a workhead and coil specifically designed for this application.

Magnetic steel knife blade
Temperature:
200 °F (93 °C)
Frequency:
165 kHz
Testing:
A custom-designed single position multiple-turn helical coil was built to generate the required heating for the application. An infrared camera was used to monitor the temperature of the knife blade. With the EASYHEAT 1.2 kW power supply, it was observed that it took just over 20-25 seconds to heat the blade to temperature, meeting the client's objectives.
