Note: Heating steel valve and flange assembly

LSR# 37453

Objective:

To heat steel valve and flange assemblies

End Product:

steel valve

Equipment:

Ambrell EKOHEAT 50 kW induction heating system, equipped with a remote heat station containing (8) 21μF capacitors in series- parallel for a total of 42.0μF

Materials:

Various steel valves

Temperature:

700°F (370 °C)

Frequency:

5 - 10 kHz

Testing:

Laboratory testing has confirmed the feasibility of the heating process using the 50 kW system. Some process development may still be needed at the customer site once the induction system is delivered to account for the unique fixture/ handling techniques used.

Benefits:

  • Repeatability: Induction delivers the same result every single time, making it a repeatable solution which is critical for this process.

  • Speed: Induction has no warm-up time like an oven and can quickly come up to temperature. Induction met the client's timing objectives.

  • Footprint: Induction takes up a modest amount of floor space, especially when you consider that the workhead can be placed a distance away from the power supply.

  • Safety: Not only is induction heating efficient, it also offers safety advantages as there is no open flame.
