Note: Preheat a Steel Mulching Rotor Tube for a Welding Process

LSR# 37193

Objective:

Heat a steel mulching rotor to 400 °F in 35 minutes prior to welding.

End Product:

Mulching rotor tool

Equipment:

Ambrell EKOHEAT 100 kW, 5-15 kHz induction heating system, equipped with a remote heat station containing (8) 21 μF capacitors for a total of 42 μF.

Materials:

16 in OD Steel tube, steel teeth

Temperature:

450 °F (232 °C)

Frequency:

7.6 kHz

Testing:

A specially-designed  helical coil was used to provide the heat to the multiple samples provided. Initial tests were conducted to optimize the power delivered to the part and to understand the heating patterns achieved. After several changes and iterations on the coil setup the test data is collected.

Benefits:

  • Even and consistent distribution of heat

  • Faster production rate

  • Reduces product waste through rapid heat-up and cool down cycles
