Note: Reverse Shrink Fitting

Objective:

Heat customer supplied parts to 300-400 °F for a shrink fitting and a reverse shrink fitting application

End Product:

steel hub

Equipment:

Ambrell EASYHEAT 2.4 kW, 150-400 kHz solid state induction heating system, equipped with a remote work head containing two 0.33 μF capacitors.

Materials:

Customer supplied steel parts

Temperature:

400 °F(200 °C)

Frequency:

159 kHz for the ID coil for shrink process 165 kHz for the reverse shrink fitting coil

Testing:

A custom-designed multi-turn helical coil was built to generate the required heating for the application. Initial tests were conducted to optimize the power delivered to the part. Temperature indicating paint was used to determine the heating pattern and the time to temperature

Benefits:

  • Defined and controlled heat pattern

  • Process easily integrated into automated system

  • Even distribution of heating
