Note: Solder a brass antenna assembly
LSR# 37719
Objective:
To improve customer's process soldering a brass antenna assembly without flame
End Product:
Antenna assembly
Equipment:
Ambrell EASYHEAT 4.2 kW induction heating system, equipped with a remote work head containing two 1.5 μF capacitors
Materials:
Customer's brass antenna parts, solder, flux
Temperature:
500 °F (270 °C)
Frequency:
261 kHz
Testing:
A custom-designed multi-turn helical coil was built to generate the required heating for the application. Initial tests were conducted to optimize the power delivered to the part. Heat times for the solder joints is within one minute with the lab fixturing available
Benefits:
-
Speed: Heating met the client’s time objectives for the de-soldering application.
-
Precise, repeatable heating: Induction is a highly repeatable process so the customer can expect the same result every time and isn’t dependent on operator skill as is often the case with a method like torch heating.
-
Safety: Induction doesn’t have an open flame or introduce unnecessary heat into the work environment.
-
Energy Efficiency/Green Heating: Induction only heats up the portion of the part that requires it and uses electricity instead of gas
