Note: Heat steel flat stock pry bar for forging
Objective:
Customer wishes to replace gas-fired slot furnaces with induction heating units in their forge shop to heat both ends of flat stock simultaneously
End Product:
pry bar
Equipment:
Ambrell EKOHEAT 100 kW induction heating system, equipped with a remote heat station containing eight 6.3 μF capacitors for a total of 12.6 μF
Materials:
Customer-supplied steel bars
Temperature:
220 °F (1200 °C)
Frequency:
31 kHz
Testing:
A specially-designed multi-turn helical coil was used to provide the heat to the steel parts. Initial tests were conducted to optimize the power delivered to the part and to understand the heating patterns achieved. After several changes and iterations on the coil setup the following data is collected from the testing.
Benefits:
-
Speed: Induction's rapid heating allowed the client to reduce their cycle time and increase throughput.
-
Consistency/Repeatability: The client can expect the same result time after time with induction.
-
Efficiency: Induction is an energy efficient medium of heating, so it enabled the client to not only save time, but money too.
