Note: Heat a Steel Mold for a Resin Bond

Objective:

Heat a Steel Mold for a Resin Bond

End Product:

Steel mold

Equipment:

Ambrell EKOHEAT 45 kW induction heating system, equipped with a remote heat station containing four 1.0 μf capacitors for a total capacitance of 1.0 μf).

Materials:

H13 steel mold, graphite discs

Temperature:

800 °F for the solid part, 1700 °F for the disk

Frequency:

59 kHz

Testing:

Customer-supplied parts were used to design the induction heating coils and to deliver energy efficiently using the EKOHEAT system. Initial tests were conducted to optimize the power delivered to the part and to understand the heating patterns achieved.

Benefits:

  • Speed: The client was able to braze the assembly within their targeted time frame.

  • Safety & Efficiency: There is no open flame with induction heating, and it also introduces less heat into the work environment. It is also more efficient than most alternative heating methods such as torch heating.

  • Repeatability: The client can expect the same result in the same amount of time every single time with induction heating.

  • Lab Expertise: THE LAB at Ambrell designed a solution that met the client’s goals.
