Note: Heat twelve steel tubes simultaneously

Objective:

Heat 12 steel tubes concurrently in an inert atmosphere

End Product:

Steel tubes

Equipment:

Ambrell 20 kW, induction heating system, equipped with a remote heat station containing eight 0.3 μF capacitors for a total of 0.6 μF
An induction heating coil designed and developed specifically for this application

Materials:

Steel tubes ½ in (12.7 mm) diameter 1/16 in (1.59 mm) wall thickness

Temperature:

2460 °F (1350 °C)

Frequency:

87 kHz

Testing:

The coil is comprised of two six-position helical coils connected together in parallel to reduce the voltage requirements on the power supply. The coil provides very
efficient heating which reduces cycle time and the conducted heat along the steel tubes. It takes 20 seconds to reach desired temperature.

Benefits:

  • Consistent, repeatable heating

  • Reduced cycle time by heating twelve tubes at once

  • Induction heating is the only method available to heat in an inert atmosphere
