Induction Heating a Tube to Heat Gases

Heating Gases and Fluids with Induction Heating

Objective

A client needed to heat an Inconel tube in order to heat gases. Induction heating can be a good option for heating fluids transported in tubes or pipes, so this was a great application to send to THE LAB at Ambrell. The target temperature for this tube heating application was  1472 °F (800 °C).

Evaluation

A custom-designed multiple-turn helical coil was built to generate the required heat for the Inconel tube to heat the gases to temperature. Initial tests were conducted to optimize the power delivered to the tube using an Ambrell EKOHEAT 20 kW, 15-40 kHz induction heating system.

Solution

Laboratory evaluation confirmed the feasibility of the process for heating the customer-supplied tube to the target temperature with an Ambrell EKOHEAT solid state induction power supply.

Conveyed Fluid Heating

THE LAB at Ambrell has considerable experience with tube heating applications to heat gases and fluids, which enabled them to deliver a solution that met the client's requirements. To learn more about free application testing, visit our page about THE LAB to get the process started.
