About:
A client needed to heat steel parts on the inside diameter in order to shrink fit them into each casing. They contacted THE LAB at Ambrell and application engineers determined that an EKOHEAT 50 kW, 15-45 kHz induction heating system with a multiple turn internal helical coil would be best solution for this induction shrink fitting application. The target temperature for the application was 500 ºF (260 ºC).
More Shrink Fitting Application Notes
Initial tests were conducted to optimize the power delivered to the part and to
understand the heating patterns achieved. After several changes and iterations on the coil setup, the process was optimized. The time to heat to reach the target temperature was ten minutes, meeting the client's requirements.
For this application, induction heating offered several advantages. It delivered heat more quickly and efficiently than alternative heating options. Induction offers instant on/off heating and only heats the portion of the part that requires it, making it an efficient option for shrink fitting. Induction heating is also reliable as it provides the same result in the same amount of time every time, making it optimal for processes that demand reliability and consistency.
THE LAB at Ambrell has a significant amount of experience with induction shrink fitting applications, which enabled them to deliver a solution that met the client's requirements.
